CU PVC Cable
CU PVC cable, also known as copper conductor PVC insulated cable, is widely used in residential, commercial, and industrial electrical installations due to its reliability, durability, and cost-effectiveness. It consists of a copper conductor, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) insulation, and, in many types, an additional PVC outer sheath for mechanical protection. The conductor is typically made of high-purity copper, either solid or stranded. Copper provides excellent electrical conductivity, low resistance, and good flexibility, which ensures efficient power transmission and stable performance under various load conditions. Stranded copper conductors are often used where greater flexibility is required, such as in wiring that needs to be bent or routed through confined spaces.PVC is used both as insulation around the conductor and often as the outer sheath. PVC insulation offers good electrical properties, including high dielectric strength and resistance to leakage currents. It also has good resistance to moisture, many chemicals, and abrasion, making the cable suitable for a wide range of environments. The outer PVC sheath provides additional protection against mechanical damage, UV radiation (in suitable grades), and general wear during installation and service.CU PVC cables are manufactured in various voltage ratings, commonly up to 450/750 V or 0.6/1 kV, making them suitable for power distribution, lighting circuits, control wiring, and internal wiring of electrical equipment. They are available in single-core and multi-core configurations. Single-core cables are often used in conduits or trunking systems, while multi-core versions are used for fixed installations in buildings, machinery, and control panels. These cables are generally installed in dry or damp locations, indoors or outdoors, depending on their specific design and compliance with relevant standards. They can be laid in conduit, trunking, cable trays, or embedded in building structures where allowed by regulations. Their operating temperature range is typically from -15 °C or -20 °C up to +70 °C for standard PVC compounds, with special formulations available for higher temperature or improved flame performance.Fire performance is an important aspect. Standard PVC is flame-retardant to a certain degree, and many CU PVC cables are designed to limit flame propagation. However, where low smoke and halogen-free properties are required, other insulation and sheath materials may be preferred. For general-purpose installations, though, CU PVC cables remain a popular choice due to their balance of performance, ease of installation, and economical cost.
